I love how Coach B has included so many variations of Class-Yes, Mirror-Words and Teach-Ok. I know that class will be more interesting this year with all these variations to flip to in this book! My favorite is Wiggly-Woggly, Teach! So funny!
The purpose of this chapter is to learn variations that are fun and game-like to your students! Remember, if your students are happy and smiling then they are engaged to learn.
Class-Yes is said most in my classroom every single day. It’s the main attention-getter. Only a few times a day I pull out one of the variations. I want to keep those special and rare, like the riding of THE BEST roller coaster that takes 2 hours to stand in line to get into the seat.
Mirror words is where the solidifying of teaching happens! This is when learning gets an engagement boost. It’s very difficult to daydream while your are doing mirror words. If students are doing mirror words you have their full attention. Did you read that?! Here it is again…YOU. HAVE. THEIR. FULL. ATTENTION. Your job as teacher is very multifaceted during this time. Not only are you coming up with the mirror words, you must, must, MUST make sure everyone is participating and doing it after you. Then, during reteaching you will need to walk around to make sure that everyone is participating and doing it correctly. For me, it’s the most exhilarating part of the lesson.
I like to have a quick, visual reminder of all these wonderful ideas, plus I was inspired to come up with a few of my own! Click the images to download these fun posters! Leave a comment below to let me know if you did and your plans to use them! I’d love to know!
